The Régiment de Deux-Ponts was a prestigious part of the French Royal Army, composed largely of german-speaking soldiers from the Duchy of Deux-Ponts region (in present-day Germany).

Officers in this regiment, like their counterparts in other French regiments, would typically wear uniforms designed to reflect a combination of military discipline and aesthetic elegance, showcasing the officer’s rank and distinguished position within the regiment. The uniform in 1781 featured elements of the Ancien Régime style including a blue coat, silver trim and epaulettes, a cocked hat adorned with a cockade and plume in the colors of the regiment or the monarchy, polished knee-high boots, white breeches, a sword with an elaborately adorned hilt.
