Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Female Trooper
On 23 May 1974, the RCMP began to accept applications from women to join as regular members of the service. The first group of 32 women assembled for training at RCMP Academy, Depot Division, Regina, Saskatchewan, September of that year. This first all-female troop graduated from Depot on 3 March 1975. But arguably the first woman to serve the RCMP was Frances Gertrude McGill, a forensic pathologist who began providing detective assistance in the 1920s. Female officers are issued the standard RCMP uniforms with two exceptions: The ceremonial dress uniform; and the official maternity uniform for pregnant officers.
